This is completely normal for your 3rd pregnancy - you may well have been 1cm dilated every since you had your last baby! What I am more worried about is why the doctor is doing internal examinations on a 36 week pregnant woman. What exactly is she expecting to find?! Pointless and potentially dangerous, as it could be a source of infection. If she tries again, tell her to sod off.
I'm a midwife by the way...

If this is your third child, 1 cm means NOTHING AT ALL. You may well have been 1 cm for your entire pregnancy since you never close up as tightly after you've had a baby. Don't allow being 1 cm to freak you out.
Also, how far dilated or effaced you are really mean NOTHING AT ALL reguarding when you'll go into labor. Moms can walk around for a week or more dilated 3-4 cm and 100% effaced! Or they can be closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a few hours later.

Being dilated to 1 cm means NOTHING, unfortunately. Some women that have experienced childbirth before never even go back to 0 ever. With my first, I was 1 cm for a month before I dilated to 2 and then another 2 weeks until delivery. My co-worker just had her second baby yesterday--she dilated to 1 3 weeks ago, dilated to 2 two weeks ago, was 3 cm last Monday, and they finally admitted her at 4 cm on Thursday evening, and she delivered yesterday(on her exact due date)..you should try to relax...if you went this week, your baby would most likely be healthy--37 weeks for a single pregnancy is considered full-term. You most likely will go a bit early since this is your 3rd and your body already knows what to do, and next week you wouldn't be considered pre-term labor anyway.

You can be dilated to a one for quite a while without going into labor. But you shouldn't worry, 37 weeks is considered full term and once you hit 36 weeks they don't stop labor. My mom had all her kids at 36 weeks and we were all very healthy. You might go earlier with this one, but you might not, there's really no way of knowing.

When I went in at 35 weeks, I was dilated to 2 cm, and then at 36 weeks I was 4-5 weeks. I was not regularly contracting so my doctor went ahead an induced me. My daughter was 4 weeks early and was perfectly healthy.

This is your third baby so you were 1 cm before you even got pregnant. Yes its true. With subsequent babies we are about a centimeter or two dilated the whole way through. Our cervix's are looser. Try to relax. Your body will most likely have the baby at or around your due date with your history. I think its great. Thats one less centimeter you'll have to do in labor.

My best friend was due on Halloween and she started dilating in September and she kept dilating but did not have her baby until October 28. I wouldn't worry too much about it, you are far enough along now that the baby would be fine if it were to come soon anyway.
