Do a google search on "bonus army" and read about the World War I vets who were promised overseas pay but never received it and who eventually marched on Washington DC during Hoover's administration and then again FDR's. Fascinating stuff that I don't have the space or time to detail here, but it's directly related to WW1 and it's something that's not widely discussed in general history classes.
Here's some links to help get you started:

Many Jews participated in the war on BOTH sides, some even receiving the highest German decoration, the Iron Cross. Even so, there were rumors in Germany that Jews are underrepresented in the army, so they had a census of the Jews in the army. No such measure was taken by any other nation in the war. Some people take this as a sign of peculiar German anti-Jewish feeling even before the disasters of the 20's and 30's (not to mention the 40's).

The Battle of Tannenburg where the Germans led by Mield Marshals Paul Von Hindenburg & Erich von Ludendorff achieved a victory against against the Russian 2nd Army led by General Samsanov. This was done by a rarely successful manouveure - the double encirclement - that was most famously used by Hannibal against the Romans in Cannae.
The Russian 2nd Army could have been spared destruction if the 1st Army to its north has been sent to support it but for the hatred between the commanders of the 2 Russian armies.
The other not so well known battles in WW1 took place in eastern & south-eastern Africa where Col von Lettow Vorbeck managed to evade & inflict defeat upon the British. He held out till the end of WW1.

World War I was a War with Germany as the main enemy. The leader was Kaiser Wilhelm. He always agreed with the Austro-Hungarian Empire. When a Serbian anarchist who wanted independence from the Empire shot the heir to the Austro Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary declared War on Serbia. Germany sided with Austria-Hungary. Russia sided with Serbia, so it was Serbia and Russia verses Austira-Hungary. Britian and France sided with Russia, so they joined them. The Ottoman Empire, which was turkey and the surrounding countries, sided with Germany and Austria Hungary. The Real "War" began when Germany invaded Belgium, who wanted nothing with the war. Germany then invaded France. The US got into the War when the German U-boats started destroying regular cruise liners. The War ended with the an US, British, and Frennch Vistory (Russia stopped in the middle because of the Civil War and because they were losing badly) The treaty of Versailles was the treaty that made Germany pay for their mistakes and gave land back to Poland, France, Russia. After the War, The Ottoman Empire bcame Turkey and the countries surrounding it, Austria Hungary broke down, and the Germans lost land. This war was also the gateway to World War II.

President Wilson had a stroke and was almost senile(some say from the spanish flu) when negotiating with the Germans. If you really what a good medically history how the Spnish Flu affected the WW1, read John M. Barry's book, The Great Influenza.

world war I actually sparked up what would become known as Dada art, which was actually a reaction against the war and art in general.
the link below is for max Ernst, who was a dadaist. there are many other written documents out there as far as the manifesto's that the dadaists wrote in opposition to the war, art and other things in life.

the formal explanation for the beginning of the ww1 was the assassination of the crowned prince of the Hapsburg dynasty. today we know that all the countries that participated in the war were actually arming themselves years before the war started. there is a rule in history that once mobilization begins it is very difficult to stop it. think of it, if you had loads of weapons and plenty of young men, would you just throw all that away?
one knows how to get into war, but doesn't know how hes going to leave it

A not so known fact is that the Austro-Hungarian media and army demonized Serbs, and frightened soldiers not to surrender to them, for otherwise they would "cut the ears, nose and penis of whoever falls into their hands". In reality, Austro Hungarian soldiers who surrendered to the Serbs, recalled later that they were treated well, unlike the lies they were told. So Penis Clinton is not the first shameless lier to demonize Serbs.
