I before E, except after C . That is why the word "R E C E I V E" is spelled as it is........or else it would have been normally "R E I C E V E" (or something to that effect)

Another is E before I, except after G

I do recall a little song (or ditty) on a "Charlie Brown" episode when Charlie was studying for a spelling bee, and he had to memorize all these little rules and tricks of spelling........... I think if you could watch it and learn what that song is, it will help you.

There was another one that I vaguely remember: O before U.......but that's it :(

Good luck!

The rhyme I learned was

I before e
except after c
or when sounded as A
as in neighbour or weigh

Then their isn't an exception, but weird still is, also foreign and Sheila. My sister Sheila hates that rule.

glacier. that's the one that always got to me the most because it rules out the "except after c" exception.
