Make sure the liner is not too saturated. Stand close to the mirror. Let your elbows press against the mirror. This should hold your hand steady. With the hand not holding the brush, pull your eyelid so it will create smooth skin above the eye. Brush in small strokes, so you can catch your self before any mistakes.

First of all, clean the excess off the brush like you do with nail polish. Then hold the corner of your eye taut. Very slowly and in one fluid motion, start at the outside corner of your eye apply eyeliner as close to lash line as possible.
Another alternative is eyeliner markers. They sell them from Avon. It gives you the look of liquid eyeliner with the precision of an eye pencil. It really stays well too.
Just be careful using liquid because you can get an eye infection if it runs into your eye.

a couple years ago, i did that (wayyy back when i was 10 :D) but i just put some on today and i was surprised at how pretty much precise the line was (only one slight mess-up instead of 20 huge ones) so i guess you just have to have a steady hand

practice with pencil eyeliner until the line is like really nice then switch back to liquid and see how it looks

I agree with aas_627. I'm 28 and I can't do liquid eyeliner. I use Mac's black powder with a small angled brush. It lasts all day long, it's easy to remove at night, and you can smudge it for a smokey evening look when you want to. It doesn't get in your eye or make a mess either.

Hold your hand steady, also don't make the line too thick- press gently. It took me a while to get used to it, and I prefer the pencil, but go for it if you like the liquid. DO NOT PUT IT TOO CLOSE TO YOUR EYE!!!!! I had that happen to me and the eyeliner made a huge black spot on my eye. It hurt.

DO NOT use liquid. The pencil works just as well and doesn't run as easily. Plus, it lasts longer. I recomend the Wet and Wild or Revlon brands. They are cheap, affordable and yet they look amasing. My friend, she's a model, uses those kinds. She's very pretty and I wish I looked as great as her. Anyway, the pencil is better for your eyes anyway.

Hold your eye out with your left hand (unless you're a leftie, then do the opposite), so you're seeing with one eye, and your dominant hand is free. Look into a close-up mirror and start drawing a very thin line, fast, to the outside...

Then use a smudgable pencil or powder (with an angled brush). That way you don't have to be quite so precise and co-ordinated and you'll still look good.
