I moved to Somerset 5 months ago and find it very pleasant but what you would define as nice might not be the same as my interpretation of the word!
Certainly I have found people to be welcoming and friendly, the countryside to be very pretty and although Bristol is a nightmare city to get into and out of traffic wise the same can be said of any big city. I haven't explored all of Somerset yet so am not qualified to say what would be the best areas and in any case that would only be my own opinion.
If you are thinking of moving to an area to live you would surely be wise to spend a little time travelling around it and seeing for yourself before making any major decisions?

somerset is a stunning area to live, and as mentioned in other answers the majority of people are friendly.
The somerset levels are a pretty area to live but remote if you dont drive. The smaller villages, shapwick, Burtle, Westhay, theale can be quite pleasent. If you are moving out from London and have money, Wedmore is a very desirable place to live but lacks the feel of some of the other areas

Somerset is gorgeous. I would reccomend the area around Ham Hill. My folks live there and it is very peaceful and serene. People always say hello, the air is clean, and there is practically no crime. I'd love to live there but I am stuck in stinky London!

in case you're used to London site visitors then Bristol is purely not any massive deal. The geographical area is right at the doorstep of Bristol, The village of Churchill approximately 20 minutes out style the airport and that section is rural and nicely below an hour from the city centre. additionally nicely worth a seem is the section around Weston great Mare, Highbridge and Burnham on Sea

In what state???
Somerset County in NJ is greatly NICER than many others, but NJ should change their state slogan from 'The Garden State" to "What's that Smell?"

If you mean Wisconsin it is nice, the Apple River runs through it and is great for tubing. A lot of trees and nice hills. Close to good fishing areas and hunting. I think to most residents it is God's country.
