I am using MusicMatch to burn audio CD's, and just opened a brand new tower of Memorex CD-R's. I've burned only two CD's out of this so far, and I've tried three different CD-R's, and Windows doesn't even give me the little task menu that pops up when you put a blank one in. When I click (in MusicMatch) on "Burn Disc", it says "There is no disc in your drive. Please insert a blank disc before starting your burn."

I stuck a couple normal CD's in there (one commerical audio, the other data) and the drive "read" it just fine. Why won't it recognize a blank one? I could see if it didn't recognize ANY of the Memorex CD's, but it already did two and burned just fine. The drive lights up when I stick it in, and spins, but nothing happens on the screen, and I get the "no disc..." in MusicMatch.

It seems as if when it "does" work, those times are few and far between, and just sheer luck. I'm very PC literate and savvy, but this has thrown me for a loop.

H E L P ! ! !

Could it just be the software you're using that's not recognizing the blank disc?

Another possibility could be that the particular blank discs were defective. I've had a couple blank DVD-Rs that weren't able to be read or written to, etc.

Another possibility could be that the blank disc isn't in the disc tray properly, where the disc can't spin like it's suppose to for it to be read, etc. That's happened to me a few times.

I used to use MusicMatch too for my music player because it came with my OS but later switched to Winamp. I like Winamp a lot and would recommend it to you. For burning, I would recommend using Nero but MusicMatch and Winamp are probably just as good as Nero for burning Audio-CDs, etc. but Nero is just a good burning program to have. I would download Nero from BitTorrent.

HP Burners.. The WHOLE LINE.. Are Extremely picky about Media.

If the CD's kave a Medium to dark BLUE Color, eg : Memorex , Sony , Maxell.. It will have a LOT of trouble burning to them.

This is due to the Laser assembly HP Uses. it uses IR and UV Lasers.

The BEST Brand I have found to work with them, is Imation.
I Wasted a FULL Spindle of Sony CD-R's.. Hal a spindle each of Memorex, and Maxel. But have YET to have a single failure with Imations.

you are able to would desire to set your burner to allow homestead windows media to apply it to burn. ensure you have dvd burner and not basically a cd burner with a dvd participant. If it seems you basically have a dvd participant. you purchase a dvd burner that connects to on your comuter by a usb port. it rather is uncomplicated to place in and use.
