to respond to baghmom's answer. the training for a DO and MD is the same length. the difference is that DO training has an emphasis on the kinetic chain with regards to body alignment and joint congruity. this means that they will have some training in manipulation. as far as their approach to a patient (aggressive versus not, etc), that varies from physician to physician and has no bearing on whether he/she is an MD or DO. I have met and worked with plenty of each that fall into each category.

Doctor of Osteopathy. Supposedly treats the whole person, not just a condition as would an MD.
Pretty sure the education for a DO is shorter.
I've seen both. A DO is more intimate, interested in patient; an MD is more agressive in diagnosis and treatment in my opinion.
