When wordprocessing. The white background gives me eyestrain with the glare

This applies to MS Word 2003, not sure about earlier versions.

Tools > Options > General Tab > 2nd checkbox down in the left hand column allows you to swap between white or blue background.

To change to a black background you would have to edit the Normal.dot template.

you dont change this setting on the monitor is done via the application your using, since u didnt say what application your using hard to give advise, i would check the settings page on the application and set the background to black. etc
