How would a neighbour know where there is a choice of about 10 providers (all equally expensive) these days? Or the council? It's only the current owner who is going to know. Anyway you can switch to whoever you want, there's no obligation to carry on with the same provider.

Hi

i work for an electricity provider, there is a company you can call. it does depend on where you are in the country, but to help, you are looking for what is called an mpan number which is your supply number for you electric and MPRN number which is your supply number for your gas, if you can get hold of these and give them to the local meter operator company, e.g transco, siemens or united utilities they will be able to tell you is supplying. make sure you take your meter reads when you move in(thats really important) to make sure your billing is started correctly.

hope that helps

You should be able to transfer the provider you have unless it's a landlord owned meter.

you will eventually receive a bill from the electricity provider in which their company name, address, phone, fax or maybe including their email address and website is written!

Forget asking a neighbour. We have a deregulated market in the UK. Your supplier could be ChinaElec for all I know.

If you're buying, ask your solicitor - they will find this out for you as a matter of course anyway. If you're renting, ask the landlord or managing agent.

You could either ask the person who sold or rented it to you...or you could ask a neighbour...or you could call or visit the local township office.
