America is mostly a country of the unbelievably stupid, naive and ignorant.

However, it has become rich and powerful because of a land rich in natural resources (taken with much bloodshed from the natives) and because of a small minority of brilliant scientists and intellectuals who are held in contempt by the majority who take advantage of their achievements.

America has been so provably wrong on so many issues it is absurd and they are too stupid to see it.

1. They now talk about solving the problems of the Middle East after voting in a president who initially said the rest of the world didn't matter to Americans (and wanted to pull out of the Palestinian/Israeli peace process- the Palestinian situation being a prime recruiting sergeant for terrorists)

2. They ignored the rest of the world who warned that they should take stock and plan before invading Iraq (and many of these supported eventual military action.

3. They said they don't believe in Global Warming (the fact that they would ignore their own Academy of Sciences shows how anti-intellectual they are).

haha, why is it that a lot of these answers came from people who are not, in fact, americans? no, "not all of us are like that," but the reason you perceive us to be idiots is because the small minority that are mentally impaired happen to be running the country at this time. im curious where you get the so-called fact that "most" americans cant find their own state on a map? the recent National Geographic studies found that more than half of Americans couldn't locate Iraq, Afghanistan, and other middle- eastern countries that have been in the news lately. While this is a travesty, it certainly does not reflect their inability to find their own state.

In addition, i think that America is not unusual in its percent of uneducated or misinformed inhabitants, or people who just don't care; it's just one of the most talked about countries in the world. Have you ever noticed that whichever country is most being talked about in the news is having its' government widely criticized? I think it's definitely a perception issue, and something that unfortunately gets projected onto the more than 300,000,000 people who live here.

Because we're no different than the rest of the world. People taken as a whole are completely ignorant and stupid. America just happens to have a school system based off of lies(outside of Math and Science(although that's even up for debate in certain backwards states)), along with a media and economy that strives on it's consumers being uninformed and afraid of everything. Americans appear stupid to the outside world because our pop culture doesn't favor originality in any medium-so you guys just see the same recycled tripe over and over again, because American businessess don't like taking risks.

At first I was angry at your question. But then I realized that you have a point. It has already been proven that many Americans can name the 3 Stooges but can't name at least 3 Supreme Court judges. I blame this on the terrible state of the government run public school system in part. But also on Americans inability to pay attention to things that really matter in this world. Some are too busy watching crap like reality TV or reading about the latest celebrity wedding, divorce or hangnail. I wish my fellow Americans would make a conscious effort to be more informed about things that really matter.

They're just too lazy to think, and that's most of them. They believe everything the media tells them, and then some. They have become a country of followers. Political correctness rules and while some do have the fortitude to stand up to that they are quickly talked down and run over by the massive numbers of followers who blindly follow the flovor of the day, question nothing and stand for nothing.

So, ALL Americans are idiots. And how much brain power does it take to stereotype an entire society? Stereotyping is the ineffective exercise of a lazy mind. It's a lot easier than forming relevant opinions based on facts, isn't it?

So how does it feel getting intellectually owned by an "American Idiot"?

I do not know whether Americans are idiot or not but I do know that they can not stand the slightest criticism whereas they feel allowed to criticized the rest of the world with total impunity. If you dare to criticize America on any site you get immediately a barrage of angry and rude answers, sometimes so injurious that you are scared. Maybe they have in the depth of their heart a little doubt after all about their superiority, notably when their technologies fail to tame the Islamists and win the war in Irak... For the moment they are not smart enough globally to admit that their technology is not sufficient to win the heart and the mind of the people. Even this idiot of Bill O'Reilly admitted that last night on Jay Leno's show... It is a progress....

I am not American and I have actually seen Americans try and fail to find their own state on a map when even I knew but I have to say that my father was born in the US and he is very smart as were my relatives. My grandmother worked for the FBI and my Grandpa was special forces.

I also went to school with some smart Americans in Europe but then again I also went to school with some dumb ones in Canada.

Bottom line is saying something like you are saying sounds like something that the people you would accuse of being "dumb Americans" would say. I am getting sick of that crap personally. Unfortunately the education system in the US isn't very good so those Americans who are informed had to work hard to do it and that is an impressive thing. I have also met plenty of dumb British tourist abroad so I guess no one should point fingers.

Well, it looks like most of us have made valid points here, and most of us did not resort to name calling, as you did. Our public education is lacking, to be sure, because our politicians have failed us by placing a low priority on it so they can try to control the world. But large numbers of Americans are in our many colleges and universities, continuing our educations and making a difference in the world. You are so critical of Americans, so where are you from? You don't sound very educated to me, not to mention that your manners are appalling.
