Easy:
1) Google (can I use that word here? ;-) ) AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender Beta (these three are the best free ones and as good as many pay for ones)
2) Download and install them
3) That's it
You also need good antivirus and a software firewall. The best free ones are as good as the pay for ones! I use AVG Free from Grisoft and Zone Alarm Personal.
