A hold up is when you stop something from happening. A stick is when it involves a weapon of some type!!!!There pretty much the same thing but one just involves a different thing.

In physics, a hold up occurs when I'm locating the picture on the wall and the "BOSS" says "Hold it up a little higher."

A stick up occurs when she hands me the tape and says, "Stick it up right there."

a hold up is a traffic jam.

a stick up... can be painful if it's a sharp stick.

If the robber says "Hold'em up!" - then it is a hold up.

If the robber says "Stick'em up!" then it is a stick up.

They are just sayings/phrases, but really mean the same thing, usually an armed robbery, etc.
