Breast tissue can start developing in Girls any where from 8 to 16 although around 13 seems to be an average.

Some people don't hurt at all but some people can have a lot of pain. A hot water bottle can be very soothing if they hurt.

A well fitting sports bra can help reduce pain and a sleeping bra can help if they are especially painful in the mornings.

All you people who just gave sarky comments about the asker being a mum and she should know - a daughters sexual development is more likely to come from the fathers side of the family and therefore a mother could sail through breast development with no pain at all while her daughter could have a lot of pain.

I needed a training bra the summer before fifth grade.

Some girls develop even earlier, for hereditary reasons or other hormonal issues. It's not unusual for American girls to start needing a training bra between ages 10 and 13. 14 is a bit old to be starting, but I knew a 16 year old when I was in high school who didn't need a bra yet.

An age like 6 is too early, obviously, and would require she see a pediatrcian to determine the cause.

Their moods will change a bit sometimes and they might have more aches and pains. Why?

Consult her pediatrician if you have a daughter going through puberty now and have some questions concerning growth.

Some girls start as young as 8. Other girls don't start until they are about 12. Nobody is the same. And it can be a bit sore, but not really painful. It sometimes depends upon when the other women in the family started to develop. Most of the women in my family developed really early. I didn't develop until I was....well actually, I didn't get any boobs at all until I was a 16-year old senior in high school. And I didn't really need a bra until I was about 27 or 28. Some of us were late bloomers.

Breasts can start to develop at any time between 9 and 16. They will be tender when they develop, and nipples may be swollen. There are occasionally lumpy areas, but these should not be confused with breast lumps, as they are harmless.

Breasts may develop at a different rate, and a girl can occasionally have one larger than the other, this is also normal, and they should even out later, although about 80% or women have one breast larger than the other.

Make sure that she wears a good supportive bra as soon as she needs it, but never allow her to wear an under-wired bra until she is fully grown, and preferable out of her teens. They can damage the forming milk ducts of the breast.

Any pain can be treated with Paracetamol.

Good luck!

Rose.

I'm a teacher at a girls (for under 11s) school and I have 2 teenage daughters of my own. At our school there is on average about 1 child in every class of 20 who starts their periods when they are as young 10 years old. Breasts are often starting to develop 6-9 months before that especially if they are on the chubby side. They don't normally hurt all the time while they are developing but are tender to touch (like a bad bruise) and will hurt if they are banged or knocked against something.

My daughter is 16 and there is one girl in her class who hasn't started her periods. Her breasts are hardly there either but she is very slight, and small and underdeveloped generally and I think she is destined to have fried eggs for the rest of her life - it's just her build - she is exactly like her mother.

I believe it is genetic so late or early development runs in families.

Girls usually develop breasts after Puberty which takes place about the same time that Periods start.
About 13 or 14 years old. With some young ladies, it does hurt some times, but it shouldn't last very long. It is something to grow out of. you will suffer a lot of discomforts until you are fully adult.

Most girls start to develop around the age of 11, some start earlier and some start later. As with any growing phase it could be a sore time, though not painful. If it is painful you should contact your dr.
