Simon & Schuster has a good field guide & it is about ten dollars less than the Audoban feild guide & it has a better binding. It outlines all the steps in identifying mushrooms, including spore prints etc. It is fairly comprehensive.

Travel to your library and get some books out and then talk to a botanist before you eat any mushrooms. This is too risky to go by pictures in a book.
A botanist or herbalist would know.

go to a bookshop.i tried to identify some yesterday and there's just too much info on the net...though the ones i picked were of the 'magic' variety!!! can't wait till they dry out! but seriosly DO NOT eat any until you are 100% sure what they are. some can kill you!

Both the one by Petersons field guides and the one from the Audubon society are good Field guides. (but pricey, use your library)You might also want to look up the local Mycological Society.
