My personal feeling is to just give them some time and attention. What could be more important than that? Give them guidance and show them how to live a good life. Give them some memories that will follow them the rest of their lives. If you really want to spend money, set up a fund that they can't touch until they are 18 or 20. By then that money can be put to a much better use and get them on their way.

i think what is most important is love and time. sure money is good and you can buy them what you want to buy them, they will love what ever you get them, but you don't want them to grow to expect that out of you all the time. i have 5 grandchildren and i love them with all my heart. i love to buy them things, but none of them live very close to me so i much would rather have the time to spend with them. so i would put love first, time second and money third.

Time and Love, money is a thing and kids don't remember money things as much as they remember the time they spent with someone who really loved them.

Your love and time is the most important. My mother is not very attentive to my children but my mother in law is. I miss my grandmas and I wished I had had more time with them.

All the things you mention in your Q are good things. I'd add your ears. Let them know they have your ears. That you'll do your best to try and understand things from their perspective. Let them know with you they can share their hearts and they are safe!
That's what my "umma" did for me, I miss her dearly.
