Newsreaders do just that...read...from ready prepared scripts. They're not permitted to change, write or re-draft anything...just read. Sadly, many can't even do that properly. Holding a pen is merely a visual aid to help them remember what their ears are for ( to stick the pen behind ) and to make us, the viewer think that they're uber-intelligent. Can't fool us tho' .....Can they ??

Making it up as they go along . The "drive-by" media " and their "stories" ..As in Dan Rather's "claim" -based on FORGED DOCUMENTS , that George W. Bush shirked his duties in the National Guard . Rather sat on his hands hoping it would all go away ..and hoped the public would believe the lies . When the truth was exposed , Rather , with egg all over his face , apologized . But the damage was done . Today , on any given day you can see the sheep following Rather's tall tales and repeating it on "Answers" , as though it were fact . Rather ( & the rest of the liberal drive-by media) know that a good many of the population only listen to a "clip" and repeat it without validation .They count on it .

so they look more animated, imagine if they just sat still and emotionless. I suppose it is to make them concentrate too. I love Huw Edwards, never hear the news as I just listen to his voice, he could read the phone book and I wouldn't notice, his voice sends me.

they are withdrawing from the olden days before computers, mobiles and keyboards. Just and old habit, likes it makes them appear interested in what they are saying, and also substanciates their ability to still write.
