I want to be able to have a customized ring tone for each person in my phone book, and have it be just a regular mp3 song. Is this even possible? If it is, is there a Nokia phone that will do that??

I've got my Nokia 6101 set up that way. I download MP3 ringtones from my provider's site (T-Mobile) for two bucks a pop; I just recently downloaded a ringtone encoder (you can't just copy an MP3 onto the phone, it won't recognize the file type) and am about to go nuts taking segments out of all the songs in my MP3 library.

The way it's set up, though, is that you assign ring tones to groups, and then you can put at least one caller into that group. I have several groups with only one caller in the group, though, so it works out just the same -- if my wife calls from her cell it plays her song ("Besame Mucho" by Diana Krall; before that it was "Love You Madly" by Cake), etc.

The only limitation will be your phone's memory -- the MP3 ringtones take up more room than MIDI ringtones, but they're digitized from real songs. Sounds lots cooler.

And before anyone asks, my wife has already told me that if I ever assign to her a clip from a certain Queen song about girls with a particular physical characteristic who "make the rocking world go round," I probably will NOT live to regret it. :-)

If you have any mp3, wma, or wav files on your computer, you can use Phone Sherpa's ringtone maker to convert your music into a custom ringtones for most Nokia phones:

They format it for your phone model then send it to you wirelessly. Its very easy to do. Phone Sherpa also has a wallpaper maker that formats any jpg or gif to your exact phone screen size.

My phone does that I think. It is a Nokia 6103. It's a pretty good phone otherwise, as well.
