At the bottom of the mouse, there is a small plastic cover. It can be opened with a thumb by press and turn. An arrow in the opening will show you which way to turn. You see a ball?. Take that out carefully.
Take a paperclip. Straighten it. There are wheels inside the mouse that look like gears. Turn one tooth at a time and clean each tooth with the paperclip. There are two such wheels. So, be patient and do it one at a time.
Then, there is a flat wheel (looks like a small rolling pin). Turn that and clean it with the paper clip.
Blow off the dust. Clean the ball, put it back, put the cover piece back in, and - viola, your mouse is good as new.
Your mousepad is dirty. You should replace it. Use a smooth surface which does not have any fuzz. Or, keep this surface scrupulously clean at all times. Otherwise, this problem will comeback again in a month or so.

Remove the cover and ball from bottom of mouse, then clean the three wheels on the inside of the mouse with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol, then replace the ball and cover. I clean mine about once a month to keep the ball rolling smooth. I clean the outside of the mouse with alcohol also.

take the cover off and using rubbing alcohol use a cotton swab to clean the ball and the wheels on your mouse. That should make the mouse move alot better. Or you can just get a wireless mouse and avoid touching the mouse's balls.

properly, better than probable, once you first were given the wheel, it had no scents on it, so as that they claimed it as their own. once you washed it although, you both stripped the heady scent of mouse from it, or you further the smell of cleansing soap to it. I hate to point this, yet at the same time as my rat(s) did this, (both truly one of them have), i tried to bathe both truly one of them again devoid of cleansing soap, and really one of my rats loved it, so as that fixed his mission, yet the different one became choosy and did not opt for to apply the different one nonetheless, so... I placed a number of his.... ummm... pellets (and not in any respect those he eats)... on the wheel, and that appeared to get him to love it again. so attempt those 2 issues. wish this helps!

Use isopropyl alcohol (most homes have it) and a cotton swab. The alcohol will clean it well and dries quickly.
