Besides the death and destruction, of course.

The best assessment of the reasons for 9/11 I've heard was from a friend from the middle east, and I think it's probably pretty much on target:
Bin Laden wanted the US base in Saudi Arabia closed and the "infidels" cast out. He had wanted to be the one to rescue Kuwait from Saddam's invasion (first Gulf War), thereby proving his ability and leadership, and perhaps uniting the people against governments friendly to the West. But the Saudis and others asked the US to step in and help instead of Bin Laden and his Afghanistan-trained men.

To Bin Laden-types, we are "infidels" with no business in Islamic countries and NO business whatsoever on Saudi soil. So our 1991 incursion into Iraq, and subsequent base in Riyadh are viewed as invasions and occupation of Islamic lands. It doesn't matter that we are/were invited there. Bin Laden would also like to get rid of the Saudi princes who invited us (well ALL of the princes, Sultans, etc.) and other non-religious leaders over there. He is trying to build an Islamic empire. He has been orchestrating attacks against US and US foreign interests ever since that first Gulf War. September 11, has been his biggest "success" to date.

We have taken out Sadaam for him, and embroiled the entire area in a long-term conflict that will almost certainly leave a bitter taste in the mouth of most Arabs. I would say BinLaden is happy (if he's not dead), and will be more so when we're gone altogether, leaving the area weakened and susceptible to more radical influences. He does not seem to be concerned about staining his hands with Muslim blood, as long as the 'infidels' aren't on Islamic soil. (BTW, This is not intended as a backhanded criticism of GWB; he inherited a volatile situation that had been building for decades.)

Just an opinion.
Hoping the best for you...

the government has in no way been waiting to immediately connect Bin encumbered with making plans or investment the 9-11 assaults. in actuality, he denied involvement in the commencing up. i don't think of he might have denied it if he became in the back of it. He could have been happy to take the credit. Bin encumbered is only the main efficient image of terrorism international huge. We attacked Afghanistan because of the fact the Taliban allowed him sanctuary there and helped to fund his activities and practise camps. maximum terrorists have been experienced there or in Pakistan. Bin encumbered did declare conflict against the U. S. in the previous due 'ninety's.

Bin Laden objective was to destroy our symbols, our ideals and our financial stability.

As bin Laden said in the video shown throughout the world after the attacks, he succeeded far beyond his dreams with regard to the Trade Center. We know of the limited success of the assaults on our other symbols.

It took the idiotic cooperation of our own government to destroy our ideals and constitutional guarantees, the basis for our "moral high ground."

I think the worst is still to come with the economic drain of the War of Choice in Iraq.

Do you not know the destination of the flight that was thwarted by some brave, extraordinary citizens on that day? They managed to get a hit on the Pentagon, but the White House was spared by those brave, non-military folks on that flight! Good thing that some of the people that use this site weren't there- they might have helped the terrorists or gave them directions to the Republican's house of rule! I can't stand you misinformed idiots! They weren't trying to be Geo-political or do anything except cause chaos, and kill as many people as they possibly could.

Like all madmen, he probably did not know very well himself. Do you think that Hitler knew what he really try to achieve when he started the war ? His objective was to get rid of Poland and the Jews. And after that, he did not know what to do. Same thing with Ben Laden, he launched 2 planes onto the Towers and then what ? He had no ideas. He is just a nervous wreck and if he had followers it is because you always find followers when you are an extremist. See Hitler !!

Recognition for his cause. Disturbing the status-quo. Drawing attention to the U.S./Israel relationship. A demonstration of power vis-a-vis Middle East versus the all-powerful West. It was a declaration of war and a call to "Jihad" for Muslims everwhere.

It wasn't about "Hating our freedoms", by the way. I disagree with President Bush on that point. His rhetoric was empty.

He did not have the means, motives of oppotunity to carry out 9/11. 9/11 is an inside job, this is very clear if you do the research

He wsn't involved in them.
You can find his full explanation at :

All of the available evidence, when studied and analysed in minute detail, shows that there were no Arabs involved in 9/11. It was in fact, an inside job.

He wanted to destroy us financially as well and that didnt work, but now he sees another way to destroy us..,we as americans were united for on 911,we all grieved,we all cried,we all got angry at the terrorists, now the anger has turned to within.Too many have forgotten that these people just want to kill for no reason, religious? But we cant fight the terrorists when we have people undermining our efforts in this war and people verbally attacking our president on foreign soil. The world now knows that many hate our president and that is falling right into the hands of what they seek to accomplish, division from within.

Payback for what the US has been doing since the 1950s. If you think bin Laden is the only terrorist leader, you're woefully misinformed...or should I say, you have a "misimpression" about world events.
