Detroit was bad last year and they hosted the all star game. We did this year so does that mean we'll be good?

I think you guys won't because atleast the Tigers had 2 good starting pitchers in J. Bonderman and K. Rogers, a good closer in T. Jones, I. Rodriguez, a very high potential 3rd baseman in B. Inge and a very good utility player in P. Polanco and they had Ordonez and Monroe as their power bats, and then those great rookies like J. Zumaya, J. Verlander, and C. Granderson came along. And they were in the same divison as the White Sox and Indians and those Twins weren't that bad either. While the Pirates have Freddy Sanchez, Jason Bay, and Mike Gonzalez and that's it. But a good closer to a bad team is pointless so he's basically useless. Sanchez and Bay that's all. No potential what-so-ever. So I'm sorry to say that your Pirates won't make anything happen, espiacally with the Astros, Cardinals, now-very-good Reds, and those surging Brewers who will eventually do some big damage.

But I hope your point of hosting the All-Star game is good luck, that means the my Giants will be great in 2008.

I like your progressive thinking. But I don't think the Pirates have the young stud pitchers like the Tigers have had for a few years now.

Also, the Tigers are riding the momentum of getting a new manager (Jim Leyland) this season. Teams often have a short-term boost in play from a manager change, and Leyland is excellent as was able to keep his team playing well the whole year. Jim Tracy of the Pirates is good, but he won't pull 30 wins out of his @$$ next year.

I'm no GM, but I think the Pirates should trade Jason Bay and get a bunch of young players in return, sort of like what the Brewers did with Richie Sexson.

Not always.

If I may babble for a minute.

The reason The Tigers are so good this year is because of David Dobrowski (Our president and GM). He has made several moves and trades over the last several years. It took 4 years for Dombrowski to get to this point.

Even then The Tigers were not expected to be where they are.

I was hoping for 82 wins at the most (which would have been thier first season over .500 since 1993), and they have far exceeded my expectations.

I could babble all day long about The Tigers, but to answer your question, NO.

Hosting the ASG does not qualify as having a good team the following year.

i'd desire to be certain a ramification of four communities max in the subsequent 2 an prolonged time. i will see Portland, Indy, Salt Lake city or Vegas, and Carolina (the only that makes the main sense). Baseball cant stay to tell the tale in Canada as evidenced via the pass of Montreal and function you taken a top at Toronto's attendance? so its a stable concept yet I dont think of we are able to boost lower back to Canada, if something, Mexico or Puerto Rico.

I don't think "A" will necessarily get you "B", but the Bucs are a team on the rise. They have Sanchez and Bay as well as a few decent young arms. The NL Central is a bit on the weak side too, so anything is possible.

PS- You guys have the best of the modern parks, too. PNC Rocks! I loooove the bridge :-)

I'm a huge tiger fan and I did NOT expect this great of a year this year, I thought we would climb our way up first before making the playoffs. So it is possible, but we had so many things go just right this year. Good Luck to ya Bucs fan

You never know. Hope springs eternal. If you'd have told me last year the Tigers would have the magical season they've had this year I would've laughed in your face, so who knows what is in store for the Pirates. Maybe they'll pull a 'Tigers', maybe not.

Not unless they move the entire franchise to Detroit.

Every Team can be good at the beginning of the year. There's no way of telling if that will happen
