Some thoughts for "williscur..."...
No one disputes the fact that people die in wars. That's a no brainer and not the question I'm asking.
So if North Korea invaded our country and killed 43,000 fellow Americans, is that acceptable because "people die in wars"?

For nischal, why is this question crooked? Define "crooked". What are the right (or wrong) reasons for people to die? As of today, it is estimated that a minimum of 43,546 Iraqi civilians have died. See http://www.iraqbodycount.net/.

I don't think anything is justifiable in that war anymore.

I see the Iraq war as a big problem with priorities and not understanding the costs. Was the regime of Saddam Hussein a dishonest and inhumane one? Yes. He is justifiably being tried for genocide. Would Americans have chosen to expend so many innocent Iraqi lives and the blood of American soldiers if they had been told the truth about knowledge of weapons of mass destruction and the lack of links to Al Qaida? No. Did Americans understand the potential financial cost of the war and the potential good that several trillion dollars could do for the world? No. Bush knew that his rhetoric and actions would lead country on a one-way trip into a war that would be difficult to end. If Bush thought that removing Hussein would be an easy route to an oasis of democracy in the middle east then he should not have been leading the country. Bush's decisions have had nothing to do with the sanctity of life and everything to do with his arrogance. The outcome of the war would have been different if the first priority was the preseveration of human life.

The question is a crooked one.
The many casualties have many different reasons even if they all happen during the period of that terrible turmoil.
Even the date chosen is confusing for a new Iraqi regime was on the way for much longer.

YES it is justifiable becasue people die in wars. Its always been that way. Even the "Innocent" folks want all US Americans Dead. Anyone ever think about that? This crap is taught to school age children so folks are brainwashed early-on in life, LONG before the US-Occupation began there.

The real number is 970,227.

That is how many people died as a result of the Civil War in the USA.

The cost of freedom is not cheap, either in money or in lives.
