Is not fear and hunger the only instincts we are born with? Think about it, we are not born knowing love. we learn it. Case in point, if you were born on an island with totatly indifferent parents who only fed you, you would not know what love is, hence it is not an instinct.

Other instincts? Survival, sex, territoriality, fight/flight, curiosity (links to survival), companionship, all of these are instinctive needs. If you have any questions about any of them, I'll be happy to elucidate.

There are 5 basic human instincts that we are born with. THey are.
Need for shelter
Need for food
Need for water
Need for company and contact (this may be where the love thing comes from, but Love is not something be are born with. It is a capacity that must be developed.)
Need to reproduce

Of course it's an instinct. Don't children beg for parents who barely acknowledge them? Don't children love unconditionally? Not because they are taught to, but because it is in their nature (instinct) to do so. We are taught to hate. We become indifferent. We fall in and out of infatuation. But we love instinctively.

Fear and hunger are not intincts. They are feelings and.or physical sensations.

We are born with only two instincts: grasp and suck

Think about this.....Love is a hunger so to speak.....it drives us and makes us "human'...love isn't all about humans ..we can form attachments ,and call it love , to pets....anything that our mind's eye sees that pleases us......there are infinite possibilities.....

That love , causes us to maintain bonds with others and our past.....

You are on your island...and have formed a pair bond(not necessarily sexual ) with an animal.....the animal is your companion, and because humans speek , you talk to the animal..trying to communicate your wants and needs.......you talk about your indifferent parents ... and your wissh that they connected with you ....years later your parents die....
IF I follow your logic , the indifference of your parents = your inability to love.....

Heres my point ..it's the recognition that your parents ARE INDIFFERENT THAT STIMULATES THAT DRIVE IN YOU TO REALIZE A DIFFERENCE.......IF THATS ALL YOU KNEW .YOU WOULD KNOW NOTHING ELSE......JUST INDIFFERENCE......WE KNOW THE PLEASURE OF YOUE ,IT'S REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS AT TIMES.
LOVE IS A LONGING FOR COMPLETION ....A NEED FOR FULLFILLMENT....

there are people , children and others who were abandoned , left to fend for themselves and or unloved all over the world......the need for affection , love, recognition and affirmation are components of the need for love......

We even love that animal on our island....if the animal is sick .dies or is killed .would you not try to do something to assist the life of the creature? yes you would , because of that bond.......we all love my friend.......some people seem incapable because of their lifes circumstances...... they become numb , retarded by the angst that is sometimes life....
Believe me, we are born to love ..without it we are nothing ...love aspires us to greatness and love for family , country and self.
love is a mystery too.....but it's all inside ....welling up to be stimulated by a memory or a beautiful sunset .......

you can't touch love .....you know that ....it's a surrender of self......and pure trust.......
