In many cities any protest or demonstration has to get a permit to do it, is that what we call Free Speech?

This is what republicans call free speech. They have no repsect for the constitution and no knowledge of history. You can see this in thier comparisons of bin laden to hitler and the war in Iraq to world war II. They have no knowledge or respect for the past or our countries values.

That's a phenomena of the government slowly eroding our rights. The idea is that if they only take away a little bit at a time, the public will hardly notice.
Originally, permits were required since government officials were genuinely concerned that protests can become violent, but it can empower any politician to prevent a protest that they don't agree with.

Certainly not!

I was a child during the Civil Rights Movement, and I can't imagine King or Malcolm X applying for a protest permit.

... i think the time is nearing we need to rebel against that and have a little civil disobedience on a large scale and get heard.
