Are you saying that you've read the play in class and the teacher never discussed what the play is really about?

Arthur Miller's influence for The Crucible was because of Communism in the fifties and how everyone was pointing fingers at each other accusing each other of being communist. This was called McCarthyism...Look that up on the internet as well as maybe going to wikipedia (or other online encyclopedia) and looking up the Crucible. HOpe this helps!

i might advise "The Crucible" too there are actual lots of subject concerns to artwork with that tie in with activities that have been occurring mutually as he became writing it (i.e. Miller's reaction to McCarthyism). it is basically in regards to the Salem witch trials that befell in the previous due 1600s.

He wrote this play during the time of the "witch-hunt" of communists. He was using the Salem Witch Trials as a comparison to McCarthyism.

In in the mid to late 1950's The Cold war was escalating and
anti-Communist and Soviet paranoia was running wild .
