a lottery ticket (probably a non-winner... but bonus points to the team who brings you a winner!)

I would suggest garbage items like popcans / tabs cigerette buts candy wrappers and so on those items are commenly found and at the same time you are cleaning up your neighborhood

alternativly an audio hunt is fun give everyone a tape recorder and a list of sounds to find such as a loud car or a toilet flushing

I did one with my daughter where I gave her a digital camera (we were at Sea World) and made her find things like

something bigger than you
something that would fit in your hand
something from each of the primary colors
something you could eat
etc

That way she didn't have to take anything away but pictures and memories and didn't have to bother strangers

A note from a neighbor........actually put something where you want them to go and make it a riddle to find it.......something in the mailbox riddle, its only visited by one person, once a day unless something needs to go....

anything from the house, and things people will give you:
dead battery, clothespin, paper clip, postage stamp, twist tie, rubber band, old newspaper -- Surely you get the drift.
