How can I get pet urine smells out of a sectional couch?

It's a cloth fabric, not sure what you call it. One piece has a fold out bed, the other side has a recliner on both ends. The smell has been there for a couple of years now and we've repeatedly used a steam cleaner on it along with constantly spraying with fabreze. We've also used baking soda and carpet fresh but the smell is deep into the fabric.

Carpets/Upholstery:
1) A great non-toxic carpet stain remover is club soda. Soak spot immediately with soda and blot until the stain is gone.
2) Pet Urine on Carpets: Dab area with toweling to absorb as much as possible, wash spot with liquid dish detergent, and rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar diluted in 1 qt warm water. Lay towels or paper towels over the spot and weight down to absorb excess moisture. Let stand 4 to 6 hours, then remove toweling, brush up nap and allow to dry completely. Use an electric fan to speed drying.
3) Red wine stains can be removed from carpet by rubbing baking soda in and vacuuming.
4) Sprinkle cornstarch onto carpet, vacuum.
5) To remove grease spots from carpets, first sop up the liquid with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of baking soda into the spot. Let it absorb overnight. Next day, remove the excess and vacuum the area.
6) To remove grease spots from carpets, first absorb excess with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of corn starch into the spot. Let sit overnight, then vacuum.
7) Dry cornstarch sprinkled on rug and vacuumed.

4 cups baking soda or cornstarch
35 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
30 drops Lavender essential oil
25 drops Rosewood essential oil
or any combination of your favorite essentail oils
Measure 4 cups of baking soda into a bowl, add essential oils. Break up any clumps that form, stir until well mixed. Before vacuuming sprinkle powder from a shaker type can or jar. Let it sit on the carpet for about 15 minutes then vacuum.

9) Herbal Carpet Freshener
1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup lavender flowers
Crush the lavender flowers to release their scent. Mix well with baking soda and sprinkle liberally on carpets. Vacuum after 30 minutes.

If the vinegar and water doesn't work, try ammonia and water instead. Buy household ammonia in the cleaning aisle of your store (usually near the floor cleaners). It can be plain, or lemon scented or even pine scented. Whatever scent they add, it always smells BAD. But it has been formulated to be a household cleaner, and since it is ammonia (the main ingredient in any urine) the pet urine will bind with it.

YOU MUST REMOVE YOUR COUCH FROM THE HOUSE BEFORE YOU SPRAY. Put it in your garage, or in a shed (to keep it out of the rain while it dries). Then saturate the urine spots with the mixture. making sure it sinks right into the fabric.

AMMONIA WILL CAUSE A SANE PERSON TO CHOKE WHEN THEY USE IT. So get the couch saturated and then get out, closing the door behind you. To facilitate drying you might want to set up an oscillating fan aimed at the couch, on high.

Once the ammonia has dried, it will take the smell of the urine with it. And it is a permanent cure. Once that urine is bound to the ammonia, it is gone.

Pet urine odors vary with the type and age and sex of the pet that did the deed. Odor from an adult male cat is particularly hard to get rid of as is an adult male dog (both un-neutered) because they contain oils and pheromones for "marking" their territory. It is going to take some pretty strong stuff to get that smell out. I recommend a product called Nil-Odor. You get it at commercial janitorial supply places. It has heavy duty enzymes to eliminate the odor. Costs about $13 a gallon. Then spray/soak with a dilute solution of liquid laundry detergent. They contain the enzyme urinase which helps neutralize the amonia and urine base smells. Female and juvenile cats, kittens and puppies are less problematic. Sometimes just the laundry detergent works. I have also taken the cushions off a sofa or chair, had the foam replaced and washed the cushion covers in the washing machine on cold - gentle and then air dried. All you need is Heinz White Vinegar. You can mix one part vinegar to one part water in a sixteen-ounce trigger spray bottle. Or use it full strength. Just saturate the spot on the fabric. It's going to smell like urine and vinegar for about three days, but once it dries, the vinegar will completely deodorize the stain.

You won't smell a thing. I've done it in my home, and it's amazing. you may want to try it out on a piece of the fabric that is hidden first to make sure it doesn't cause a stain.

Mixture of 50% white vinegar and 50% water, with the juice of a lemon squeezed in, spray it on and let dry. Make take 2-3 times. Good luck!
