The Mesopotamians were a very advanced society for their time, they invented the wheel, irrigation system (toilets), lens, glass, number 0, lock and key, law (Hammurabi's Code of Laws), sun-dial, chariot, helmet, chariot, soap, and various important inventions. They also divided the day into 24 hours, and divided the circle in 360 degrees, 60 minutes, and then into 60 seconds. They had "invented" the Pythagorean Theorem before Pythagoras claimed it as his own. They also divided the week into 7 days, due to the number of planets they had discovered. The Mesopotamians were credited with the ideas of Astrology as well. The Mesopotamians were truly advanced for their time.

They invented the chariot. Clumsy, with full wood wheels.
Their city states were heavily involved with trade and had small indutry. (i.e. formal division of labour according to skill. Their cities had such a successful waste disposals system that it drives archeologists crazy. (not much refuse to study). Their trade was far ranging. Their citires occur during the early copper age. Had sophiticated sculpture, art work, and music. There was kingship but a remarkably flat society. (i.e. not much stratification).
