Go to the support forums in Apple and post your question there. Try uninstalling and reinstalling windows and resetting your iPod back to factory settings to see if that works.

You didn't mention if it was a regular iPod, a Nano, a Mini, or a Shuffle.

make sure you have the most up to date version of itunes. you can get the newest one at apple.com. the newest ipods will not work on previous versions of itunes.

the same thing happened to me when i got my ipod back after having it fixed under warranty.
in my case they had it formatted under mac not pc, thats why my pc couldnt understand it. anyway what you do is get an ipod updated and restore it to its original settings, make sure its not "locked" during that time.

Go get a Mac!
Apple Compresses Files Tighter than P.C. therefore you can get many more tunes on your iPod on a Mac than on a P.C.

re-install i-tunes, then reboot your computer, then plug in your ipod. If it still doesn't work maybe your iPod is defective.
