The most important thing is to get a police report at the scene, so that if it wasn't your fault, the officer can ticket the other party (comes in handy down the road with the insurance companies' claims). Tell your friends and the insurance company the truth about what happened. Don't get over-emotional or try to slander the other party (it will make you look more professional and credible). Prepare a written statement explaining what happened for your insurance company. Make a drawing of the intersection and the way the accident happened. Sign it along with a statement such as "I have prepared the above and it is true and correct to the best of my knowledge." Take pictures at the scene if you can, and be sure to note the weather conditions (whether the roads were slippery, if there was sun glare, etc.) Also note if the other driver was using his cell phone at the time of the collision. Good luck!

Depending on the state, you'll need to report it to the DMV or you'll lose you license.
Tell the truth at all times, then you'll never have to remember what lie you told to whom. This is a good rule for life; tell the truth and don't lie.
