Muslim women can vote, drive, study, work according to religion. They are free to do all the good things. They do speak out, remember when France banned the hijab thing?
Islam is better for women than other religions. What other freedom is there? Freedom to do bad? That's what it sounds like you want. You're just brainwashed by Western media.

I am glad that you asked this question. The part of question is that "you have heard". My friend when this religion was propagated by Prophet Muhammad, it was the most progressive religion of the world then. If you learn about Islam with a magnifying glass, you will find that it is beautiful, really beautiful. Think how advanced this religion was when in the 7th century AD, this religion could make codes of conduct for the safety and well being of women. Look at the practice of MEHER which is protected by SHARIAT (the holy law). If you compare islam with other religion, you find that it gives more rights to woman than any other religion. But in the modern times what you find is abberation. Purdah system was more aimed at protecting a woman than as a means of their control. You must also know that Islam prospered in a very hostile environment of arab nations. When it was propagated as a new religion, the status of woman was very bad. They were only marginally better than slaves. Hence stricter laws had to be made to protect them. But I do agree with you that with modernity and with changing times freedoms should be given to women, like voting rights, and right against physical abuse. Even these things are being incorporated, alebit slowly in the islamic world. Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait have conferred voting rights to woman.Things are changing, and for betterment.
Dont go on criticizing the muslims. Give them a chance.

No, it will not change, though there may be some cosmetic alterations as the more 'moderate' muslims try to make the religion look good. Truth is, women don't count in Islam, and since Islam is devoted to only two things--its own promotion and the maintenance of the status quo--that is not going significantly to alter. It isn't fair, but life often isn't.
If you're looking to get a fair shake, switch religions.

I don't know where have you heard such things. Our (India) neighboring country Pakistan and Bangladesh had women Prime Minister. In India I have seen Muslim women are holding very reputable position in every field. You can see their mark in the field of literature, arts, science, academy, politics, sports, and movies etc. No field is untouched by them.

It is one of the traditions of the Muslims they abide with. One thing I need to bring to your attention, during Muhammed's time women were allowed to be in war with men. But I have no details of how they partook in the actual war, presumebly by taking care of their needs("men"). We just need to keep in mind that they hold to tradition of the Qur'an, Hadith and the Prophet. I suggest you read a book written by A. Montgomery called Islamic Fundamentalism

This will change. At one time, nobody gave women freedom and it is slowly changing. Soon everyone will be appreciated and respected for who they areâ¥
