It is ten years old. If you do the work yourself then around $300 to $350 for parts. Once you have the head off you should grind the valves. They will cook them out and shim the springs if needed. If it is two heads, that would be another $150, maybe more. That is what NAPA charges around here. They will also check to make sure the head is not cracked. I have never heard it referred to as a cracked head gasket. If you have someone else do it it will run over $1000.

I'm not in S.C but I'm close, so I'd guess $900 - $1300 for parts and labor, you didn't mention if it was a 4 or 6 cyl. Call a mechanic, they can usually tell you over the phone, that is assuming you don't have a cracked or warped head. Good Luck!

if your ford ranger is a v6 4.o you will probably be better off to scrap the truck and spend the money you would otherwise use in its repairs to by a newer used vehicle.
