They work.
They also fill your house with steam that gets into your walls, floors, and ceilings where it feeds mold and mildew. This in turn negates the cleaning you just did and leaves behind toxic spores.
The best way to clean is old fashioned scrubbing, either by hand or with something like a Black & Decker Scum Buster (only about $30.)
Isn't it amazing how these wonder products don't tell you about thier side affects?

I have a steam cleaner which works very well with cleaning my counter tops, bathroom walls, and wooden floors. I can even use it to de-wrinkle my suits. But it costs me over $300. I'd make sure you get a quality one. $50 seems a bit too low.
Get online and search steam cleaners and do some quick researh. With the right one, highly recommended.

I had a small one and returned it. It didn't hold enough water so the steam ran out really quick. I didn't feel that it worked as well as it stated on my stove, which is not that dirty. It is good for toilets, the steam gets into all of those icky nooks and crannies. I just found it cumbersome to use.

For that amount of money.... I doubt it very much. If you "really" need one and plan on using it regularly, spend the extra money and a "good" one.
