It's all about image. They get to take down their walls in the safety of their own homes but have to act a certain way to be accepted by the other kids at school.

I sum it up as an ALTER EGO. Perhaps the pursuit of subconsciously having it all. Im not sure, then again some people (outside influences) of course bring out the ugly side of people.

My children act better in public, my husband is the way you say, and I would say it's a response to conditioning. You have to act a certain way to get acceptance.

Split personailty? Maybe around other people that they don't care so much about they show who they truly are, or vice versa? Or they might be trying to show off when they're in public or something like that.

I don't know, but you should count yourself lucky if this is the case. I think the reverse is much more common (that people are nasty at home and sweet elsewhere).
