American Alignment with France, who was Britan's enemy... and the British practice of empressment, in which it would board ships and take american sailors and force them to serve in the royal navy, lead to tensions which resulted in the war of 1812.

Ironicly, the greatest american victory of the war, the battle of New Orleans, happened after the peace treaty had alredy been signed. no internet in those days..
