What is the best geneology site to look for ancesters?

Looking for information about birth father family. There are alot of sites for information, but which one has the most concise information and is affordable if they charge a fee? Is geneology sites the way to go?

The only geneology site that I know of is called ancestry.com. I'm not sure about the cost, but it is more than likely pretty pricey.
