The medical procedure I know is to use phenol glycerin for a few days and then visiting a physician to get earwax removed, especially if the wax has a dark colour. But one thing's sure: Do not manipulate!

There are several methods, though not all are doctor recommended. One, there are things called ear candles. You put the narrow end in the ear and light the other end. They are supossed to pull the wax out gently. Also, you can use a mineral oil to loosen it up before swabbing it out. Personally, I take a hot shower then swab my ears out right after I get out while the wax is still loose from the hot steam of the shower. I do this daily so the wax doesn't have a chance to build up heavy.

There are some OTC for ear wax removal; ask the pharmacist.

A nurse told me that once a week gentle put water from the shower head into the ear to clean it out.

If wax is a recurring problem, you need to see a doctor.

Wax keeps the ears clean
The skin lining the ear canal contains glands that produce cerumen. This yellowish - brown waxy substance protects the tissues, and helps prevent infection by trapping micro-organisms, dirt and other irritants. Wax is constantly travelling towards the outer ear where it can drop out. Actions of the jaw, such as talking and chewing, help to ‘massage’ the wax out of the canal. The ear wax you see is a combination of cerumen, shed skin cells and dirt.
Diagnosis and treatment options
Your doctor diagnoses the condition by looking into the ear canal with an instrument called an otoscope. Treatment options may include:
Drops to soften the ear wax and help it to fall out on its own.
The use of an ear syringe to squirt warm water into the ear canal and float out the wax plug.
Withdrawal of the wax using a suction device.
Removing the wax with forceps or a special hook.
Large quantities of hardened wax may need to be treated by an ear specialist.

Black ear wax is not good. You need to see a doctor. It could be a sign of infection in the ear. Usually using Debrox ear drops will do the trick. You put them in and let them sit in there for a few minutes and then flush the ear out with water. You will have to do it a few times to make it work. Don't use Otix drops, they don't work at all. However, if your wax is black, you need to seek medical attention.

you can go to a health store and buy a earwax candle. it is very simple. put the candle through a paper plate or something so nothing hot gets on you. put the candle in your ear and within minutes the wax is gone.

u can try what we have always used with no problems. The doctor told us about this. Use 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 peroxide. i mix just enough to fill the cap on the bottle. that's enough to pour into 1 ear. hold washcloth around outside ear so it doesn't drip down face. lying down on your side, tilt ear down. pour in mixture. let it sit for 2-3 min. tilt ear to pour out.do same to other ear. this cleanses and softens and removes wax buildup.

Put olive oil in them for a week then go to the drs and have them syringed. You can buy drops to loosen and get rid of wax from the chemist but I suppose it depends on how bad it is as to whether it works.
