You can use Geocities or Tripod.

However, while Google allows publishers to use free hosting for their sites, they do not allow showing competing contextual advertising on a webpage. If you use Geocities, you will run into trouble with Adsense because Geocities shows ads from Google Adsense competitor - the Yahoo Publisher's Network

Better get a Blogger account http://www.blogger.com and set up your blog site with them. Here's the information on how to put Adsense ads on Blogger http://help.blogger.com/bin/answer.py?answer=42281
