bearshare lite (the free version) comes bundled with spyware, two of those being "jango search assistant" and "when u save now".
limewire does not come with the bundled spyware.
just use limewire, if you must use file sharing.

Here's some information you might find useful about
Bearshare. BearShare is a very powerful, free Gnutella
client for Windows which addresses many of Gnutella's
previous problems. BearShare is a Win32 peer-to-peer
file-sharing application created by Free Peers, Inc. built
on Gnutella technology. BearShare was built with the
development goal of improving on Gnutella. It is an open
source Gnutella workalike that adheres strictly to the
Gnutella protocol and is the first client to address the
learning curve encountered by new users. BearShare
provides a Connection Setup Wizard for configuring the
client and logging on to the network and offers automatic
connection maintenance using the Clip2 DSS Gnutella
Service Provider. The Search function handles any file
type, highlights keywords and supports simultaneous
Active and Passive searching modes. BearShare is also
compatible with the indexing features of both Reflector
and LimeWire.

I have a friend that uses it and loves it. When I went to download it though, it seemed to be full of advertising, so I opted not to. I believe there is a pay version that reduces or omits the advertising, but I still opted not to. I have watched movies at her house that she has gotten for free there though, it certainly works for what you want.
Do remember that copying and selling would be copyright infringement and they are getting tougher and making examples of the people they are catching. Also be aware that it is a "user sharing" software, meaning you will be downloading from someone elses PC, so yes, virus' are possible if you do not have an up to date and running virus software. Even then, they have ways of getting in. Be cautious what you choose to do with your downloads and take note of the rating of the users you choose to download from.
