I tore one of my lower back muscles back in May 2006 whilst playing netball. I was checked out at the hospital and given some fabulous drugs. I had 3 months off netball but have been going back on and off since end of July. It still isn't right and I still get pain and am scared to put 100% in case I injure myself further.

Anyone know how long I should leave it until going back to netball fulltime? Anyone know anything I can do to get my back back to normal quicker?

I have tried Chiropractor and Osteopath but they can't do anything for me. Massages help slightly but I am so sore afterwards, plus she says she cannot really do anything for me because the fibres that were torn have clumped together and are causing pressure on my spine! Any help would be sooo appreciated, I'm desperate to get back to exercising!

massages do help hun but to have a real good one can be expensive. You need to do a lot of hamstring stretches as they are connected to the bottom of your spine. Aso take a good look at your posture when sitting down, are you sat with an arc in your back. When bending use your knees instead of bending your back. A good little trick to help with the massage yourself, get a squash ball and lie down on it across the affected area. Rotate your body and massage your back yourself on top of the ball. xx trust me it helps

Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings, but I ripped a muscle in my upper back when I was sixteen. I am now twenty seven and it's still not right! It took about two years for the pain to completely go away and the muscle is actually stronger now thanks to scar tissue, but the muscle is and always will be different to the corresponding one on the other side. Of course this means that I am prone to back-ache and it never comes on harder than when I've been to the gym. The only solution that I can think of with my unqualified mind is to rip the other one and then maybe everything will be fine! When you damage a limb in any way, bones or muscles or whatever you learn to adapt and compensate. But with your back you have damaged one half of what is effectively a single unit, and both muscles operate together so the ripped one is just holding the other back. Sorry for being so glum but I have had to live with the truth for a long time!

chiropractors are crap try going to physio instead it helped me when i tore a few ligaments and muscles in my middle back region.. I don't believe that a person who pulls your bones can help the muscle or ligament damage.
