Hi There,

My babies day at 6 months:

wake 7am (even if still asleep i gently wake her)
full feed from both breasts
wash and dress by eight thirty.
Small amount of baby breakfast or weetabix with dash of milk in

9 - 9:45 sleep after 45 mins wake her up gently.

11-11:30 am breats feed from breast last fed on ( if she is really hungry offer the other breast too)

12pm offer some lunch, try protein such as chicken or if vegitarian try humus and rice. NO MILK as it interfers with protein absorbsion. drink of water or juice from a cup.

12:30 - 2:30 sleep after 2 hours wake her up gently.

2:30 - 3pm breast feed from both breasts.

Play as much as poss in afternoon!

4pm small drink (no more than 5 ounces) water or juice from training cup.(really important at this age or they don't get the hang of a cup!)

6pm bath, massage in some cream in a darkened room and they full breast feed really take your time to get the most from this feed, some times baby needs a rest of 10 mins or so half way threough so don't asume shes finished! If the feed at this time is short then i would say that your milk supply is slow in the evening (most peoples is as evening is the time of least production) you could try expressing after each day feed to give her a bottle top up at this feed to make sure she's full or if your game for it try a 8 ounce formula feed? she should sleep through on 8 ounces at this age.

During the night if the day has gone well then she will NOT need a feed, she may be waking for the comfort of a cuddle and a feed with you, if you have a partner try getting him to go to her and comfort her without talking or making eye contact, he could give her some warm water but should not offer any milk asd she doesn't need it. if you must go to her yourself then only offer her a small amount of water.

Your baby should sleep 7pm till 7am at this age and have no more than three hours sleep during the day.

I would guess that the reason your having no luck with solids is because shes having so much milk, by cutting out her night feeds and offering more water you should find that her appitite increses and she starts to accept more in the way of food.

offer no more than 4 breast feeds a day, this may be tough but it should encourage milk production at the correct time of day so your baby will be getting better quality.

By the end of a week i bet she's sleeping through the night and happy with her routine, it sounds quite strict but believe me it works and once its well established you can be a bit flexible, every baby i know whoes tried it has taken to it really well and they were not hungry!

(baby refered to as a she just because mine was no offense to mums of sons intended!!)

Routine For 6 Month Old

2016-12-11 13:43:22 · answer #2 · answered by zarate 4 · 0 0

Maybe you should start introducing bottle feeds now. She has had a good 6 months on the breast, so now is the time to get the solid plan on track. You'll prob find that replacing breast with bottle will make more interest in solids. Buy yourself a high chair to get the idea of "food time" established. Start on a 7 or 8 oz bottle for breakfast with a little baby rice or cereal(just a few spoons or two). Another bottle for lunch with a few spoons of savory foods, and bottles only for tea and bedtime. Dont want to give too much solid before bedtime. Do this for a few weeks to start. Carry on with night bottles, but drop an ounce every night and gradually incresae the solid in the days and introduce new flavours. Hope fully she will start to sleep longer through the nights and not need so many feeds and then start sleeping all night. Probably come to be more hungry at set times in day and enjoy eating and trying new things. Little fromage frais are good first foods for puddings or treats. Try bathing at certain time every evening and she should start to go to bed at certain time each night. I started routine at 5 weeks and my son was sleeping through by 9 weeks. As long as she has 20 0z or more of formula a day that is fine. Good luck.

6 Month Old Routine

My son is now 6months old. any routine you start will take a while and trust me will change your lifestyle ( I know if you have just had a baby that will also change it lol). My son get up between 8-9am has a small feed(breast), change his nappy, play for a couple of hours by around 11:30-12 he is tired small feed (solid) then he sleeps for an hour, change a nappy when he gets up play time till 6 then feed (solid) then bath then sleep.

Few pointers:
-Organix and Hipp offer great flavours and no sugars
-don't give breast everytime he cries for it
-if baby doesn't take food try alternative products and flavours
-DO NOT FEED baby breat milk close to time of solids and trust me he will swallow it down.

Hope this helps:)

Are you offering her both breasts in a feeding? Make sure that she is feeding for more then 5 minutes on each breast. It takes 3-5 minutes for your hindmilk to come down. It is thicker and more filling then the foremilk. It might be a bit long to nurse, and I know that us Mom's have LOTS to do besides nurse!! Just remind yourself that your little girl will have a good start with you nursing her!

Another thing to think about it that at 6 months it's ok to introduce solids, starting with single grains - rice, oatmeal and barley. Introduce slowly. 1 Tbsp very runny - like milk, but a wee bit thicker. give this to her once a day for a week then thicken it up a bit. after 1 week on the runny rice cereal, introduce oatmeal, then 1 week later introduce the barley. As the weeks go by, keep thickening it up until it's simular to oatmeal that adults eat.

It's important to watch your baby while intoducting new foods. Look for rashes, heavy daytime breathing, any odd behaviour if you do see any of those symptoms, your wee one might have an allergy or intollerence. Talk to your Dr or local Public Health Nurse.

This is a link to the handbook that I was given when I had my 2 kids. I think that it might be able to answer some of your questions. Good luck!

baby should be awake, nappy chenged and feeding at 7 am. she should feed from both breasts or heve a full bottle feed followed by breakfast cereal mixed with either expressed milk or formula and fruit.she should be awake 2 hours. at 8 am she should be encouraged to have a good kick on her play mat for 20-30 min.settle the baby in a sleeping bag in the dark with the door shut no later than 9 am. she needs 30-45 min of sleep. at 9.30/9.45 open the curtains and undo the sleeping bag so she can wake up naturally.at 10 am baby should be fully awake regardless of how long she slept. let her play or take her out.at 11.45 she should be given most of her solids before beeing offered water or well diluted juice then alternate between solids and drink. encourage her to sit in her chair while you clear the lunch tings. at 12.20pm change her and settle her down in her sleeping bag in a dark room with the door shut.baby must be awake and feeding no later than 2.30pm regardless of how long she has slept.open the curtains and let her wake up naturally.change the nappy and let her feed from both breast or a full bottle.do not feed her after 3.15 pm as it will put her off her next feed.4.15 pm change the nappy and give her watwr or juice but no later than 4.30.at 5pm she should be given most of her solids before being offered a small drink of water. it is important that she still has a good milk feed at bedtime so keep this drink to a minimum.she must start her bath no later than 6pm and be ready massaged and dressed by 6.30pm.feed her at 6.30 from both breasts. dim the lights and sit her in her chair for 10 min while you tidy up.at 7pm settle her in the cot in the dark with the door shut. she should sleep through the night.read gina ford the new contented little baby book and it should explain you how to get her into this routine and what changes you have to make with the age.

Well im not a mother but i have a 2 year old sister and a 6 month old brother!!! My opinion is to slowly start to feed her the rice cereal because that contains more carbs and proteins which would fell her up better and you should feed her about every 3 to 4 hours!

My son is 4 months old and I breastfed. He is starting to sleep his nights. At 9.30 every evening i fed him I even wake him up if he falls asleep before he finishes both sides. I noticed that on most nights what wakes me up is him whinning not even crying. So if he is not crying I leave him be and surprising enough he goes back to bed if he cries i grab him. I have noticed that most of the time he will comfort himself by sucking on his hand and go back to sleep. He will only sleep 6 hours but believe me that is much better than 2 or 3 hours. You know your baby better than anypne so listen to her. Try not responding to her right away and see what she does. GOOD LUCK Oh yeah and unlike the last hour DO NOT TRY pumping 8 ounces in a bottle to see if u have it a pump works no where as well as your baby!!!

At six months my babies were having cereal and fruit for breakfast, cereal and veggies for lunch, and fruit and veggies for dinner. This is with a half bottle of formula after each meal and a full bottle between lunch and dinner as a snack. They were napping from about 9-10 each morning, from about 12-3 in the afternoon, and maybe a quicky at 5 but were generally skipping that nap most days. I know this cause I kept a journal and I just looked at it.
