Oh, you opened up a can of worms! I cringe at so many words it's really hard to choose. I'm hyper-sensitive to words (like everything else, I guess) and it causes physical pain to hear any over-used, lazy excuse for a word that people blurt out like robots just because everybody else is saying it. Of course, even I find myself using these words occasionally, which is a form of self-torture. "lol" I'm starting to despise (although it's not even a word) and I shamefully admit to over-using it. I guess anything used to excess can become grating. I also generally hate swearing unless it's used maybe once a year under some extreme circumstance, and even then it should be uttered under-the-breath in slightly regretful way. Sometimes a seemingly innocent word like "Sunday" will make me cringe because that means the next day is Monday which is work! Actually "Monday" makes me cringe for the same reason, and even "Tuesday" can induce a slight twitch in my right eye.

I can't think of any words specifically that rub me the wrong way (tho the answerer who said derogatory words has a good point), but mispronunciations of words will sometimes make me cringe internally. We are none of us perfect, so I try to be polite.

no, but there is a sound, and if it can be made into a word, so be it
it is the sound of fingernails (or bad chaulk) against a blackboard.
anyone know that one? makes me cringe just to think of it.
or it could also be any word your mom has a particular knack for screaming (like all of them)

I agree with the first post.
Example: Feminine hygiene products. Makes me cringe because I don't want to know!
Individually they are harmless, but string them togather and it's the last thing you want to see during the superbowl!

Mispronounced words such as "supposably" or "axe" a question, or words used in the wrong context. And bigotted words as well. In complete sentences - not a problem.

The use, overuse, abuse, and mis-use of the word "actually". You can barely watch a show for ten minutes and not hear it. Ugh.
