What's Love Got to Do with It - Tina Turner

You must understand
That the touch of your hand
Makes my pulse react
That it`s only that thrill
Of boy meeting girl
Opposites attract

It`s physical
Only logical
You must try to ignore
That it means more than that

CHORUS:
Oh, what's love got to do with it
What's love but a second hand emotion
What's love got to do with it
Who needs a heart
When a heart can be broken

It may seem to you
That I'm acting confused
When you're close to me
If I tend to look dazed
I've read it someplace
I've got cause to be

There`s a name for it
There`s a phrase for it
But whatever the reason
You do it for me

CHORUS

I've been thinking of a new direction
But I have to say
I've been thinking about my own protection
It scares me to feel that way

What's love got to do with it
What's love but a sweet old fashioned notion
What's love got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

One will who tends to think that one is feeling a certain emotion towards a certain object in respect of certain of its attributes, when really one is not thinking of the object or of its attributes at all. This is what I call 'second-hand' emotion.

Love has EVERYTHING to do with it. Love is what started life in the first place. Love is not a "secondhand emotion".

But romantic love does have to be kept in perspective. One can certainly understand why the singer of those lyrics (Tina Turner) had reason to doubt romantic love. For example: spouse abuse.

Romantic love is not the only kind of love in the world. Romantic love needs to be tempered by the intelligence and wisdom God gave us to function with. People "in love" are actually caught up in a psychological/chemical state called "luminescence". It usually wears off eventually. But God's love never "wears off" nor does it "wear out". His love you can depend on.

Sing it, Tina. At least you are no longer "working all day on the river."
