Our constitution obligates us to rebel against corrupt government. A patriot to the US would refuse to obey a criminal order.
A patriot to humanity would prefer to sacrifice his life before killing anyone, and therefore should learn ways of defending the innocent without killing.
There comes a time that to defend the innocent it seems moral to kill, and I believe then a soldier is forgiven. It is not something any moral person would choose to do if the situation could be different.
I think it comes down to this, we just don't know how we will react in such situations until we are actually faced with them.

Not blindly, no. But if it could be proven that this was the best course, and really necessary, a true patriot would. I doubt this is a likely scenario, but consider the men who sacrifice themselves to save their squad, for instance. The fact that the act was not directly solicited by the President makes it no less an example of self-sacrifice. And that is a long respected and admired quality, not only in patriots but people in general. It is one of the qualities which distinguishes worthwhile individuals from the dross of life: the willingness to sacrifice either themselves or their personal comfort for someone else's welfare. Parents do it all the time!
Personally, I consider myself a patriot, but I admit I'd have to be convinced of the necessity of the proposition. Then again, I've always subscribed to the Anita Blake school of thought. When asked what she would be willing to do for her friends, she said she would be willing to kill for them. I'd rather be on the handing-out side of the act, but sometimes you just don't get a choice.
Not all people have the courage to give of themselves, even in smaller things, but the truly good ones do.

yes. look what happened over 200 years ago when the declaration of independence was signed and everything that came after that. those people died because they believed that we ought to be free from the tyranny and oppression that we were suffering in other nations. it's that same sense of patriotism that has men and women joining now. there are still some towns in small town America that appreciate the WWI1 and the WW22 veterans. they appreciate the pride in our country, regardless of the boobery of the current president. those same men and women that are joining now for the values that a patriot holds dear, also know that in a time of war, if they are captured, they are not to denounce our president, our country or our ideals. it's better to choose life over death. a really good example of your question would be Vietnam, the P.O.W.S. look at the ones killed in action or as a POW.

so yes, in answer to your question, a patriot would submit.

and this president is no worse than the one who had us at 23% interest rate, no worse than the one who couldn't get us out of Vietnam, no worse than the one who couldn't get the Iran hostages back after a year, no worse than the one who freed half a nation at the cost of his own, and was later shot for it. he only seems worse because we're living through him right now.

The patriot might submit, but he should not submit. Logically speaking, the patriot should do everything in his own best interests. It's the president's duty, to make sure that all of the patriot's best interests are also the USA's best interests.

If he did, then he is either a masochist or a nut job!

I would not believe that any President would tell anyone, that their death is "for the good of the Country!".

Your trained to "kill the other guy" in the Military, instead of "laying down your life"!

In the Marines, we are taught to "let the other guy die for his Country, your mission is to live and kill again!" There IS no "sacraficing" for your Country. If your killed, its "your fault" that you weren't good enough, or slipped up in some way, and got yourself killed.

No, a partriot would not die for his Country unless he thinks he is a Martyr, and they are of no use at all, to a reasonable Nation.

I wish you well..

Jesse

If it was a Conservative patriot (are there any?), the conservative would go on national television and agree to die for his country and his holy president and then he would skip town and join a militia group.

If it was a Liberal patriot, he would tell the president to go fvck himself.

If he did he would be an idiot, but I doubt he would. A patriots duty is to stay alive as long as possible.

Sure he would. Then his family would sue for billions of dollars so they wouldn't have to do anything anymore except sit around getting fatter.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did. After all, he does have those soldiers stay in Iraq longer than they should.
