I understand that the Bowls have played a major part in college football. But I also feel that they can play even a greater part in this sport by taking their bowl process and use it for a playoff format. This will involve more programs around the nation and when more programs get involved more people watch. This notion that a playoff format won't work and it wont make money is a total insult to the fans and the players all across this nation. These kids are getting ripped off ,and they had a survey ,that the majority of the the kids playing football at this level are simply not enjoying the game as much as they did in high school. To me, and to the coaches ,as well as school officials, this should be a concern big time. These kids should be having fun and every kid no matter what program he chooses, should enjoy football and even have a shot at the title. Trust me, give everyone a fair shot for the grand prize, the fans and the networks will make it happen. Money big time.

Yes, college football needs one. Given the number of teams in college football and the limited number of regular season games, it's almost impossible to gauge who is actually the best team. So somebody down the line decided that the sportswriters and the coaches should get to anoint someone to be the champion, even if that team never played another good team all season (see BYU in 1984). Too often, the coaches and especially the sportswriters only look at someone's record and not who they play, so that a team in a tough conference with one loss is considered out of the national championship hunt while an undefeated team in a weak conference can still have a shot.

A playoff would prove conclusively who is the best, and gives a number of teams a shot at the title, as opposed to the travesty of the B(C)S which is just more of the same. And a system based a lot on strength-of-schedule (like what college basketball does) will get teams to improve their non-conference schedules, because Lord knows we're all sick of seeing Georgia or Texas A&M play Central Upper Nebraska Tech.

I think they should make a playoff system this way.... the Top 8 team play eachother. #1 vs #8, #2 vs. #7, ect than whoever wins goes to the next round. than the winners of those play in a game for the national championship
