Since "centi" means 100 and "pede" means feet, a "centipede" has 100 feel or 50 pairs of feet (or legs if they actually have legs).

"Centipede" is latin for "100 feet" or "100-footed", so that would mean 50 pairs of legs.

Despite their name, which stems from the Latin words 'centum' (meaning 'hundred') and 'ped' (meaning 'foot'), they normally have around half that number of legs, though it is possible to find centipedes with over 200 legs.

50

50 pairs X 2 legs in a pair = 100 legs (centi- means one hundred, -pede [ped/pod] means feet)
