U.S. research stations such as the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica?

The material the stations, the buildings, the equipment, the vehicles are most certain US Federal property. They paid for it US tax payers behalf. Just because something owned by the US isn't in the US doesn't mean they still don't own it. Even the clothes supplied to the people working in USAP is owned by USAP.

Now the land (or should I say ice) that the South Pole is built on is not owned by the US, and they do not claim it. While at the South Pole you will be asked to not enter the buildings or work sites without an invitation. If you ignore this I'm sure you would be removed. Of course there is no way of enforcing your right (if you have one) to go anywhere, including inside a USAP station in Antarctica.
