As others have mentioned, the Xbox 360 does have USB ports. It will also read a USB hard drive just fine, with a few caveats:
* It will only read, not write. A USB hard drive is no replacement for the Xbox 360 hard drive peripheral.
* It will only read music or photos.
* The drive must be formatted using FAT32 (NTFS will not work).
In essence, the 360 sees a USB hard drive as any other USB mass storage device like an iPod or digital camera. It doesn't recognize it as an actual hard drive that can written to as well as read from.
