If you are a minor in the state of Ohio you have to have a 30 minute break (off the clock) if you work 5 hours. If you work 5 hours and 1 minuet you are in violation. If you are an adult (over the age of 18) you are not REQUIRED to take a break no matter how many hours you work. One has to be offered TO YOU however if you work an 8 hour (or more) shift.

*please note this was true until 2000. They may have changed the laws since then. Call your local wage and labor board if you really want the laws for your state. Breaks and minor laws are ruled generally by the State in which you work. Usually big companies go by the strictest state in which they deal.

I believe you have to take a lunch if you work more than 6 hours, you get 2 breaks if you work 7-8, but the breaks only have to be 10 minutes, it is up to the employer if they want to make them 15 minutes
