Ballet is not a sport. You do not actually "compete" in ballet. It is truly an art form. Some top football players actually take ballet to help their game...

I'm in my first Ballet class now, and it's the toughest workout I've ever had. I can tell you that. Is it a sport or an art form? Well to me it's a sport, because of how I ache afterwards, and because I'm not feeling like a work of art or thinking of my movement as "aesthetic" at this point.

Now watching others...thats another story. So I'll allow for it to be a sport or an art depending on execution, and for me it's a sport.

BITE YOUR TONGUE! Ballet is a fine ART! A rare and beautiful form of dance that evokes magic and fantasy. How can you possibly compare ballet to a sport? It's light-years above and beyond mere sport! Any fool can pick up a tennis racket or throw a football. It takes years of hard work and perfect genetics to become a dancer.

Well Ballroom Dancing is also considered a "sport" so, yes. Dancers are some of the finest athletes in the world actually.

Some people just do not realize how developed a dancer's muscles are and their tone, that they practice for hours sometimes everyday, they often do Pilate's and other exercises. They are incredibly strong and limber and have great "cores" and coordination and discipline. So why Dancing is also great Art, it is also a sport.

Ballet is an ART that requires a lot of physical strenght, flexibulity and coordination.

While one can argue that Dancesport is a sport, ballet is definitely an art, even though it requires just as much or even more fitness than Dancesport.
