No, he never seemed comfortable there anyway and the format never worked with him in it. Richard was a very hard act to follow as he defined the show rather than just presenting it, and I think they're going to have to go through a couple of presenters before the programme settles into its new era.

I think after Richard Whitely it was just too much of a hard act to follow, hes never looked comfortable doing Countdown since he took over after Richard Whitely died, maybe he is just getting out now while he can.
